Enjoying Beyond the Casino in Atlantic City

Way back in 1920, prohibition was enforced in America. The law made it illegal to produce or sell liquor (beer included.) But Americans had to drink anyway. The trick was to go to secret clubs, or make bath tub gin at home. Or, all you needed to do was get a doctor’s prescription. People had other choices, especially travelers – they could pop into Atlantic City. The best hotels in Atlantic City proved to be a haven for tipplers. The tourist based economy of Atlantic City encouraged hotel owners to do whatever possible to please habitual drinkers, and also the occasional ones. Booze was available in plenty not only in the best hotels in Atlantic City; you could also go to the city’s beachfront location where docks allowed rum runners to sell the smuggled ware. The stuff was available all over the place, because the city’s powerful bosses controlled everything including the lawmakers, police, and the restaurants. It was flagrant violation of the federal law.
